Druggists warn DM over sealing of medical store

Instead of concentrating on how to improve deteriorating conditions of basic civic services like drinking water, frequent checking at hospitals, private medical stores or other departments, the District Magistrate, Nainital seemed to be doing nothing but for photo-ops. With no irregularities found during investigation by the authorities concerned at a private medical store, Haldwani that was sealed after the District Magistrate Nainital, Deepak Rawat’s order on June 4, many druggists and chemists here have strongly opposed such actions in future.

Following some complaints of alleged nexus between the Government hospital staff including doctors and private medical stores, the district administration Nainital on Thursday last issued order to seal a private medical store, Shiv Pharmacy, Haldwani. The District Magistrate had on June 4 ordered to seal the private medical store on charge of certain irregularities including non-renewal of licence after conducting raids at the base hospital Haldwani.

According to the officials, the licence of the said pharmacy expired in February last. Following this the Magistrate had asked the Drug Inspector concerned to conduct an inquiry into the alleged irregularities within three days and asked seal the pharmacy with immediate effect. However, during investigation it came to light that the owner of the Shiva Pharmacy had actually applied for renewal of licence but it was not renewed by officials concerned. The drug inspector also didn’t found any irregularity at the pharmacy.

Finding no irregularities as such chemists and druggists here strongly opposed such order of sealing of any medial store. They were of the view that any such move of the district administration will strongly be opposed in future. Apart from that, delay in putting contingency plan in place on time on part of the district administration also seems to have worsened the drinking water supply in Haldwani.

The fact is that out of 15 overhead tanks ready to be used for drinking water supply as earlier claimed by the officials of ADB, Haldlwani, only about five overhead tanks have so far been connected with tube-wells across the Haldwani region for supply of drinking water. Meanwhile, the district administration is now active, issuing order to connect other overhead tanks which area ready with tube wells soon so that drinking water supply could be improved.
