After the private medical stores the department of drug control has turned its attention on the sale and storage of narcotic pain killer drugs in government hospitals. These drugs are also misused by habitual substance abusers. A departmental team led by drug inspector Anita Bharti raided the drug distribution counter of the government Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay (Coronation) hospital on Thursday and sought the details of sale of medicines like Fortwyn (Pentazocine) and Tremadol injections used in severe pain. She was informed by the pharmacists of the hospital that 1250 doses of Fortwyn were used this year while 950 are kept in the store. The teams found that in the medicine distribution register a lot of 50 to 100 injections were marked by the pharmacists. Bharti said that she has sought details like doctor’s advice and the patients administered this injection from the pharmacists.
The team took three samples of the injection for examination. She said that the store of the hospital was also in very bad shape where medicines were kept without following the prescribed norms. The team found no cupboards and cooling facility in the store room and was shocked to find growth of fungus on its walls.
