The people living in various parts of Uttarakhand may get respite from the scorching heat in next few days. Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre has forecast light rainfall at isolated places from Friday evening. State may receive moderate rainfall at many places on Saturday and Sunday. The Met office has forecast light to moderate (1-20 m) rain/thunderstorm at a few places in hills and light rain/thunderstorm at isolated places in rest of Uttarakhand on Saturday.
Meanwhile, a spell of drizzle brought relief to the people from the protracted blistering heat in the evening on Friday. The denizens of Dehradun welcomed the drizzle as they have been suffering from the sweltering summer heat for last couple of days. “Till noon things were insufferable. However, the drizzle and the hovering clouds brought us a little of relief from the unrelenting heat spell,” said a resident of Rajpur.
Notably, Met office had earlier forecast moderate rainfall on June 13 and 14 at many places across the state. The State would receive moderate rainfall on Sunday while on Monday, light rainfall might occur as per the forecast. The spells of western disturbance-spawned rain would continue for a few days which would result in mitigating the searing heat the people have been suffering from for the past two /three weeks.
However, State Meteorological Centre director Anand Sharma said that they are still not in a position to say anything about the tentative time the monsoon would finally set in the state. The department officials are monitoring things and monsoon is most likely to arrive in Uttarakhand in the last week of June, he said.
Sharma said that the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 38.0 degree Celsius and 24.8 degree Celsius, respectively in Dehradun on Friday. The weather forecast for Dehradun on Saturday is partly cloudy sky. Thunder cloud development/light shower may occur in some areas towards late afternoon/evening. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 38 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius, respectively on Saturday, it is learnt.
