Child beggars would soon be free from the clutches of beggary as Special Task Force (STF) is all set to launch a drive to rehabilitate the children engaged into beggary after the Independence Day. STF has charted out complete blueprint to make its drive a huge success.
Embarking on its plan, the STF has identified several pockets in the city where child beggars are a common sight. It has also identified around 20 child beggars. It recently held a meeting with district administration, involving social welfare, non government organisation and child and women welfare department.
A team of officials recently traced the houses of the child beggars located in the slums of the city. They met their parents who are least bothered about the future of their children. If the officials are to be believed, they don’t want their children to come out of beggary as the meager amount earned by them as a result of begging matter a lot to them.
A senior official, who traced the locations of the houses of few child beggars, said, “Setting the children free from the clutches of beggary is an uphill task as the parents of the child beggars don’t support at all. If they support our stand, they would stop getting the monetary support earned by the child from beggary.”
The officer, however, claimed that their efforts would bring positive results in near future. launching the drive, the STF would rescue the child beggars and would rehabilitate them with the support of the NGO that recently attended the meeting.STF SSP Senthil Akdai Krishanraj S, who is taking keen interest into the matter, said, “Before launching the drive, a thorough study has been done to make it a success. We want that the rescued children are rehabilitated in such a manner that they could never get back into the beggary.”
He said that at the tender age, when these children (child beggars) should spend time in learning letters and numbers in schools, they are engaged in begging. With a bowl in their hands, they could be seen at intersection. This is an irony. “It pains me a lot whenever I see a child begging. So, serious efforts are on to set the child beggars free from the clutches of beggary,” Senthil said.
He has also asked some of the NGOs as to how many children they could rehabilitate at once. He is waiting for their reply. Soon after getting the reply, the drive would be on ground. The child beggars would be rehabilitated with the help of these stakeholders.
