In a major reprieve for the staff crunched department of radiology at the associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) here the health department has sent Dr Manoj Sharma as radiology specialist. With his joining, the derailed services of department of radiology are expected to be back on track. Dr Sharma has been transferred from Government hospital Tehri.
The senior Radiologist of GDMC, Dr Yatindra Singh was transferred by the State health department in the recent reshuffle. His transfer coupled with resignation of one Senior Resident, Dr Vichi Khanna created a situation of crisis in the department of radiology. The entire load of different services of the department fell on the shoulders of Dr G S Joshi, a former Director General (DG) of state health services working on contract post retirement. The sudden workload prompted Dr Joshi to offer his resignation and he had to be persuaded by the Principal to continue working.
The radiology department of the hospital has facilities like Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computer assisted Tomography (CT) scan, X rays, Digital X ray, Ultra sound, Mammography and bone densitometer. Hundreds of patients visit the hospital which incidentally is the biggest government hospital of the state. The department conducts more than 200 X rays, 125-150 ultra sounds, 40-50 CTs and 20-25 MRI daily.
The Principal of the GDMC, Dr Pradip Bharati Gupta said that appointment of Dr Sharma would ease burden on the radiology department. He informed that senior anaesthesia specialist Dr S S Negi and two SR (anaesthesia) have been provided to the hospital to streamline the functioning of the hospital.
In addition two anaesthetists have been empanelled for female wing of the hospital. It is pertinent to mention here that a shortage of anaesthesia specialists was triggered by transfer of doctors from the hospital due to which operations in the general wing of the hospital were hampered.
