The detailed project report on construction of homes for those to be relocated to Transport Nagar for river front development along a stretch of the Bindal river has been approved and construction could start in a month. The DPR for housing for those to be relocated from a stretch along Rispana to Amwala Tarla is about to be finalised. The household survey and biometric study of the three pilot project areas for river front development along the Rispana and Bindal has been completed while different concepts are being considered for sourcing water in the rivers, said officials of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA).
The stretches of the Bindal river from Haridwar bypass to lalpul, Vijay Colony to Bindal bridge on Chakrata Road and a stretch of the Rispana ahead of Kishanpur police colony have been taken up as pilot projects for river front development on the lines of the Sabarmati river front development in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. A sum of Rs175 crore has been approved so far for the pilot project. To relocated families from the banks of the Bindal pilot project area, upto 600 homes are to be constructed at Transport Nagar with the DPR on this being approved. The construction could begin in a month.
The DPR for constructing up to 800 units at Amwala Tarla for relocating families from the Rispana pilot project area is in the process of being finalised. Regarding the sourcing of water for the rivers, WAPCOS limited, conducting the hydrological survey for the pilot project, is looking into the possibility of tapping into upstream springs or using artificial tubewells among other methods. The feasible method for sourcing water is likely to be recommended in the interim report of WAPCOS limited. While work on the zonal planning and master plan for the pilot project is continuing, the possibility of constructing platforms on the riverbed with water flowing under these at selected sites to facilitate informal markets is also being looked into, said officials.
