PM Modi’s demonetisation move having unleashed a frenzied debate across the country, the youths of Dehradun have come out in support of the bold move. This despite the fact that they are facing the brunt of its aftermath though they are tech-savvy.
In the era of e-commerce and e-payments, around 100 crore people in India are using mobile phones and 30% of them are using androids. And importantly, a quarter of them is youth. Despite plenty of companies offering software like paytm and promising to make the transaction of money easy, things are not easy for the youth.
Nishant Vashishth, a student of Doon University, said that he is lending full weight behind the drive meant to flush out unaccounted-for money from the Indian economy. “However, the switch should have been much smoother. We are in difficulty too as the vendors, especially the smaller ones, are not accepting cards and other such modes of transactions, something that is landing us in difficulty despite the fact that we are capable of using all the e-modes of transaction.”
Another student, Vandana Dangwal, however, questioned the rationale of the move, saying that it would affect 6% to7% of the black money accumulated in the system at the best. “This can hardly compensate the tremendous difficulty it has unleashed in its wake for the common people,” she said.
A young entrepreneur, Achal Khare said he was ready to face the teething troubles in the greater interests of the nation. “I am facing problems too, but I do not grudge them, sure as I am that it would transform the now- rotting system in the long run,” he said.
