Doon women hospital nursing staff suspends work for four hours

Published on:

The nursing staff of Doon women hospital suspended work for more than four hours on Tuesday in protest against alleged assault on a nurse and security guard by the relatives of a patient on late Monday night. The agitating nurses were later persuaded by the Director General (DG) of Health Services, Dr R P Bhatt to return to their duty.

The commotion started when doctors of the hospital referred a patient Shayra

(25 yrs), wife of Irshad a resident of Chandra Shekhar Ajad Colony, Govidgarh to higher centre. The doctors told the family members that the child in the mother’s womb is no more.

The infuriated family members of the patient broke into an altercation with on duty doctor Padma Rawat and nurse Deepa Rewasi. They said that the doctors should have told them about the condition earlier as the patient was in the hospital for last three days. The altercation soon broke into fisticuffs.

The hospital staff alleged that some relatives of the patient tried to manhandle staff nurse and thrashed the hospital guard, Jeet Bahadur Gurung when he tried to pacify the agitated group.

The infuriated nursing staff undertook a work boycott on Tuesday morning and demanded that they would resume work only when the health department assures their safety.

On getting the information of work boycott, the DG health, Dr Bhatt arrived in the hospital. The DG assured that a case would be filed against the culprits and said that a concrete plan for safety of hospital staff would be undertaken. On the assurance of DG the nurses resumed their duties. The hospital administration later filed a FIR against some unidentified miscreants. The police have procured the CCTV footage of the incident and investigating the case.
