As the people of Dehradun are reeling under scorching heat power–cuts are compounding their miseries. In some of the localities, the spell of power-cuts continued throughout the day. Water supply was also disrupted in these places.
Several areas of Dehradun like Rajpur Road, Salawala, Raipur, Shivlok Colony, Vikaslok, Vani Vihar, Badripur and Nehru Colony had to bear the brunt of the power-cuts happening frequently.
“We keep suffering with the power going off frequently. Voltage dipping low is another problem we are facing. The summer heat going beyond the limit of endurance, the power outages of protracted spells are leaving us miserable,” said Rajnish Rawat, a resident of Rajpur.
Sohan, resident of Vani Vihar, echoed the same sentiment, saying that irregular power supply when mercury is soaring high has been adding problems to the residents. “My locality reeled under protracted spells of power outages on Tuesday. low voltage compounded our problems as water supply was disrupted,” he complained.
Explaining things, an UPCl official said that 400 KV Rishikesh-Puhana line at Motichur had tripped following excessive carbon deposition due to forest fire. “Things compounded as overload affected 400 KV Rishikesh-Rashipur line. Due to technical snag that developed in the power stations in Uttar Pradesh, 400 KV Kashipur-Moradabad line tripped too. This resulted in the local grid in Garhwal region plunge into a huge crisis of power shortage,” the official said.
UPCl spokesperson Madhusudan Issar said that to bridge the deficit, 15.97 MU power had been purchased from the Centre-run hydro power units on Tuesday, adding that UPCl has been receiving 75 MW from Tata Power on daily basis after the tendering process was completed for May.
UPCl official Issar said that following low power generation in state- based hydro power units and increase in power demand, UPCl would purchase 3.5 MU from Indian Energy Exchanges to bridge the deficit on Wednesday.
