Doon SSP to withdraw FIRs against students

Dehradun SSP Pushpak Jyoti agreed to withdraw FIRs lodged against  some student leaders  after the latter assured him that  they would not threaten law  and order during the upcoming student union elections.    The leaders of various students’ groups from DAV (PG) College met him  at  his office on Tuesday and expressed their anguish over police having lodged FIRs against some student leaders for threatening law and order. They demanded prompt withdrawal of such FIRs.
Dozens of students reached SSP office and met SSP Pushpak Jyoti on Tuesday. Student leaders said they are  neither goons nor criminals. They wondered how  police could have tagged  the leaders under  law and order sections of IPC. Bhagwati Prasad, a student leader, said that SSP had assured the students leaders that they would withdraw the cases lodged in Dalanwala police station. “However, he sought assurances from us that we would ensure that no scuffle occurs  involving us during the student  body election,” he  added.
On the occasion, SSP Jyoti appealed to the student leaders to support Nai Zindigi campaign launched by the district police to prevent young people from being lured by drugs. According to SSP, as large number of students (around 20, 000) are studying in various degree courses in DAV (PG) College their support will be vital to make Nai Zindigi  campaign a success.
