Increasing theft cases at hotels, petrol pumps, jewellery shops, hospitals and other places in the State capital have left police jittery. They seem to be focused more on the people equipping their private establishments with CCTVs rather than on plugging their own loopholes to stop crimes. In the latest, Dehradun SSP Pushpak Jyoti asked the owners of nursing homes, private hospitals and clinics to install CCTV cameras. However, SSP Jyoti had earlier asked for the same when he had met the owners of petrol pumps, jewellery shops, banks, public schools and others. But they are yet to act on his instruction.
Around 50 doctors and proprietors of hospitals and nursing homes attended the meeting held on Tuesday. SSP said that with a large number of patients and their relations reaching hospitals and nursing homes daily, the probability of crime is high. It is imperative to have CCTV cameras installed at OPDs and outside the main gates of the clinics. He also stressed on a register being kept at the entry gates of such facilities for recording the names of the patients and other visitors. The cases of substance users visiting such facilities should be informed too.
Besides, the antecedents of the staff should be thoroughly verified before they are appointed. He said that they have been launching Nai Zindigi operation to treat and rehabilitate the drug-addicts in the district. “This aside, teams formed at police station levels are on their toes to stop sale of narcotics and drugs. Police have been strictly directed to impose challans under MV Act regarding drunken driving in the district,” he said.
