Doon residents oppose proposed power tariff hike

Residents strongly opposed the proposed tariff hike by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) for the next financial year. However, regulatory commission officials cleared that the commission will tighten its noose on the corporation for providing best and round the clock facilities to its domestic and commercial consumers at the billing collection centres.

After filing the ARR (Annual Revenue Requirement) by UPCl to Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) for the proposed hike for domestic, commercial, non-domestic, commercial and industries consumers, a public hearing was held at Dehradun on Monday with an aim to receiving public opinion about the tariffs.

Residents and representatives from the industry sector strongly opposed the hike in the tariff of electricity. They said that instead of hiking tariff for electricity, the State Power Department should take concrete steps to enhance facilities at billing collection centres and reducing the errors in electricity bills.

After strongly opposing the proposed hike in the electricity tariff, residents have also threatened to hit the roads, if UERC gives its consent to hike in the prices of distribution, transmission and generation by the different Government agencies in the State. While speaking to The Pioneer, Deepak Pandey said the commission may or may not recommend hike in power tariffs and a decision would be taken after listening to every section of consumers in the State.
