The people of Dehradun reeled under long spells of power cuts on Wednesday with the volume of power generated in the State having dipped as compared to normal days. Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited director and spokesperson PC Dhyani said that following shortfall in the volume of water, the power generation at UJVNl’s hydro-power projects was reported lower than normal days on Wednesday, resulting in power deficit across the state. However, UPCl official said that no power cut has been reported from any part of the state expect for two hours in the rural areas of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts, SIDCUl and non- continuous industrial units of Garhwal and Kumaon on Wednesday.
The reality was different as people of some of the localities suffered from power outages continuing for hours on Wednesday.
Irregular power supply was reported from several places like Tapovan, Sahastradhara Road, Kewal Vihar, Jogiwala, Aamwala, Dalanwala, Old Survey Road and Karanpur in the city. Things turned more grim as water supply was disrupted in the aforesaid areas with the power cuts dragging for hours.
Ramesh, resident of Vani Vihar, said that despite works being done to improve the power situation from time to time, nothing positive was happening on the ground. “The state government must do something to rid us of the frequent power outrages,” he said.
Praveen Rana, also from Vani Vihar, echoed the same sentiment, saying that irregular power supply was compounding their summer woes. “My locality reeled under protracted spells of power outages on Tuesday and Wednesday. Water supply was disrupted too,” he complained.
