The woes of Dehradun residents reeling under the sweltering summer heat for the past few days have been further compounded with the power outages running for hours in many parts of the city. The mercury hovering in the neighbourhood of 36 degree Celsius, the unscheduled power cuts are adding to their summer woes, runs the critical refrain among the suffering residents. Trading across the city is also being affected as the functioning of cyber cafes, parlours, music stores and electronic shops is being disrupted thanks to frequent power cuts.
Resident of Jogiwala, Rajendra vented his annoyance, saying that with summer at its scorching worst, they are being forced to go without power for two-three hours at a stretch. DV Joshi, a senior citizen and a resident of Dalanwala, echoed the same sentiment, saying that the power cuts are happening now and then without any time fixed for it. “We have drawn attention of the power department, asking for redressal, but to no avail,” he lamented.
Vinod Kumar Sharma, a resident of Raipur, said that the frequent power cuts coupled with the searing summer heat are impacting their daily lives. “Things are particularly grim for the students as when they sit to study in the evening the power invariably goes out. The spell continuing for hours, the inverters are coming to no avail,” he rued.
However, the power officials when queried said there was no power shortage in the city. Power cuts might have occurred some places due to local technical snags, they said.
