A protest against Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat took an ugly turn when Mussoorie MlA Ganesh Joshi and his supporters brutally attacked a police horse deployed to control the agitators, thus breaking a leg of the animal on Monday. The whole incident was caught on media’s camera.

Joshi attacked 13-year-old horse Shaktiman with a ‘lathi’ and was followed by other protesters present there. Shaktiman has been admitted to the IMA’s Veterinary Hospital, where doctors opined that the horse’s leg will have to be amputated, said Dehradun SSP.

Police registered a case under appropriate sections of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and sections 429/188 of the IPC against Joshi and his supports on Monday night.

Sources said that the protesters turn violent after local BJP leader Jitendra Moni fell to the ground after being kicked by the mounted police horse.

Rapped for his cruelty to the animal, Joshi issued a statement saying that while he just tried to push back the horse, but it fell down as one of its legs was stuck in a roadside pillar. Horse rider Ravinder Kumar was also injured in the melee.
