The workers employed for door to door collection of garbage by the municipal corporation of Dehradun continued their strike on Thursday. However, the corporation was able to get some of its waste collection vehicles to operate.
Officials said that the process is underway to finalise contract with a new enterprise and employ workers afresh for the door to door collection of garbage in Dehradun. The Dehradun municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar Jogdande said that the tender process had already been started for the waste collection contract. Those working in door to door waste collection are slated to be replaced by newly appointed workers in the near future.
Apart from this, the MCD will also start the procedure for appointment of about a dozen drivers on daily wage basis for operating the vehicles used for door to door garbage collection. The task of door to door collection of garbage and its proper disposal will become regularised once again in about a fortnight, he added.
It should be mentioned here that the door to door waste collection staff have been on strike for more than a week now and had agreed to resume work on Thursday. However, they resumed their strike on knowing that five of the workers had been fired by the MCD.
