The State Government has set up a time frame of November this year for establishing Doon Medical College, as per the guidelines of Medical Council of India (MCI). A decision in this regard was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Medical Education Minister Harak Singh Rawat on Thursday. The time frame to the department was given by Chief Secretary (CS) Rakesh Sharma. He said that selection of faculty and Principal would be done soon.

In the meeting a clearance of Rs114 Crore for the medical college was given. The CS ordered the Medical education department to increase the number of beds of the hospital within a month. For recognising a medical college, MCI mandates a 300 bed hospital while the Doon hospital has 290 beds at present. He also said that the ramp for the patients in the hospital should be constructed within a month. It was also decided that the ongoing construction activity of main building, hostel and residence too would be finished by September 30. As per norms of MCI a medical college should have a teaching faculty of 65, posts of 46 resident doctors, 100 posts of paramedical staff and 175 posts of nurses. In the meeting the department was asked to complete the entire process within a period of one month. The government appointed Dr Ashutosh Syana as officiating director of Doon Medical college and he is entrusted all these tasks. The CS asked the department to prepare manual of medical education with necessary amendments within next 15 days and constitute committees for selecting the staff and Principal. The additional secretary Neeraj Kherwal and secretary medical education RK Sudhanshu would monitor the progress of the Doon medical college on a fortnightly basis while the CS would undertake monthly monitoring meetings in this regard.
