The dialysis machine of associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) has not become operational yet. The hospital administration had stopped dialysis in the nephrology centre from last Wednesday. Patients are continuing to face problems due to non availability of the important facility at the biggest Government hospital of the State. The hospital administration however is claiming that the dialysis centre would be made operational by Tuesday.  On Monday work on maintenance of the machine was going on. The hospital staff informed that the Reserve Osmosis (RO) machine which is an important part of the dialysis equipment needed repairs.

The RO machine of the dialysis centre is very vital as 130 liters of water is required for one cycle of dialysis on one patient. Meanwhile the lone nephrologists of the hospital Dr Harish Basera who was on leave has returned to work. This correspondent saw some of the poor patients requiring dialysis sitting haplessly outside the centre, waiting for the machine to be corrected. One such patient Shanti Bhatt a resident of Subhash Nagar said, “The doctors have advised me dialysis for two times a week. I have to shell out more than ` 2500 in the private centres. This machine is a very good facility for the poor patients and government should ensure that it works properly.’’

The Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital Dr K K Tamta said that the work on the machine has been completed and the dialysis would start from Monday.

The centre has three dialysis machine but one of them is non functional for some time.

This centre caters to the in house patients and three to four dialyses are normally done in a day here. It is worth mentioning here that the CT scan of the hospital is also non functional for the past three months now.
