The change of governance in Uttarakhand has raised a huge surge of hope and expectation among the civic bodies of the State capital. Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli (in pic) has much expectation from the newly appointed Chief Minister Harish Rawat and would most probably fix a formal meeting to discuss several development related issues with him.
Chamoli maintained that “We keep the same expectation from each Government and wish the newly formed Government would make some positive efforts in respect to the development of the State capital”. The State has recently suffered a huge loss in the form of a natural calamity therefore, the first and foremost motive of the Congress-led State Government should be to make all possible efforts to redevelop and rehabilitate the disaster hit areas, he said.
later, he stressed that the civic body of Dehradun is regularly demanding to provide autonomous rights to it but to no avail. It is has to depend on the State Government for all the development related issues but no assistance is provided. Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is expecting various kinds of support mainly the financial and official assistance from the Government. Various schemes and projects of MCD are pending in the absence of adequate amount of cash.
The State Government should bring in the 74th amendment therefore boosting the pending development issues, he said. The official and administrative structure of the civic body still need to be restructured and is still following the same administrative structure prevalent in 1950s. No amendment has been done yet in the official and organisational structure of the corporation till date, he added.
