If everything goes as planned then all those patients who visit Doon Hospital have very solid reason to smile as the hospital administration is planning to increase the number of beds in the emergency ward of the hospital.

Since the number of patients visiting hospital has been increasing day after day, it has turned extremely difficult for the hospital administration to provide beds to the patients as hospital records 100 per cent Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) throughout the year.

All those patients who visit Doon Hospital are normally refers to the higher centres due to the non availability of beds in the hospital. Besides, acute shortage of doctors and para-medical staff has been hampering department efforts for providing best and round the clock medical facilities to patients besides, expiry of contract of the medical officers has further deteriorates the situation in the Government district hospitals and health centres.

After realising the fact that it has turned extremely difficult to admit seriously ill patients due to non-availability of beds in the hospital, the hospital administration has decided to give preference to those patients who are serious or patients who have been referred from other Government hospitals.

Sources confirmed that repairing and renovation work for increasing the number of beds from 15 to 23 has already started in the hospital. It is noteworthy that patients not only from community health centres of Dehradun but also from higher parts of the state also come as refer patients to Doon Ground of Hospitals.

A department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that the department has been continuously working for improving the medical and health facilities in the hospital. He told that PMHSA doctors are urged for providing best medical facilities even after OPD timings till the contract of the medical officers is renewed in the near future.
