The authorities of the Doon Hospital here have denied the charges of negligence in the death of a patient on Tuesday. Murari lal, a resident of Tehri Garhwal district, died after being operated upon by the doctors, the relatives of the deceased had alleged that lal died because of the gross negligence of the hospital staff.
Murari lal was admitted to the Doon hospital on June 27 due to a fracture in leg. On Tuesday the doctors operated his Femur bone (thigh bone), after the operation he was shifted to Ward no 4 of the hospital. In the ward the patient complained about problem in breathing and was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of hospital where he died. The relatives of the patient raised a ruckus after his death; they complained that oxygen was not provided by the hospital staff to the patient. The relatives of other patients also joined the protest and raised slogans against the hospital staff. The hospital authorities assured the relatives of the patients that an internal inquiry would be done in the matter and disciplinary action would be initiated against the staff if negligence is established.
When contacted the Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) of Doon hospital Dr RS Aswal said that the complaint that oxygen was not given to patient is not true and the hospital has a proper supply system of Oxygen in the ward and the ICU. He said that the patient was also suffering from asthma. Interestingly the post mortem of the deceased which would have established the exact cause of death was not done. Dr Aswal said that the relatives of the deceased did not ask for the post-mortem.
