Doon has 26 CCTVs, of which five are dysfunctional

Despite police admitting that they are on their toes round-the-clock in the wake of the recent arrest of four terror suspects from Roorkee in Haridwar, the cops seem to be oblivious of the fact that the State capital which is supposed to be also under the terror radar aside from Haridwar has as many as five CCTVs installed at sensitive points dysfunctional. This, despite the fact that the State’s top cops keep claiming at the top of their voice that they are tracking the terror suspects through CCTVs.

Currently, 26 CCTV cameras stand installed in the State capital, out of which five are dysfunctional.

The CCTVs which are dysfunctional are located at security-sensitive Rispana and Haridwar Road which are among the principal entry points of the city. What is more, police say they would six additional CCTVs installed soon in the city to give more teeth to the network of surveillance vis-à-vis terror. It is learnt that a proposal has been sent to the State police and with its approval, six more CCTV cameras would be installed in the city.

The observers say police going for  verbosity while claiming that they have put into place a fool-proof security network to offset any terror plan in the city and elsewhere in the State cannot pass the test with five CCTV cameras installed at important places remaining dysfunctional.

“We wonder how we can match the cops swinging into action to grab some students found on CCTVs wandering about the city roads in the night hours, taking them for terrorists with their ignorance or nonchalance in putting into order the non-functioning CCTV cameras.
