Among the glitterati and showbiz of top actors and Mumbaikars, a Doon- based girl has bagged the tenth Zee Gold Award for this year. She was awarded as the most ‘Fit Actor’ in the female category at a function in Mumbai. In an exclusive interview with The Pioneer, the actress shares her fitness formula.
Alumni of Kendriya Vidyalaya FRI of Dehradun, Barkha has been shooting in various films and TV serials for more than a decade now. After the nomination by the Jury, online voting was done which won her maximum thumbs up. “I am happy because I was the only mother who got the award. The rest of the tele actors was from the much younger age-group like Krystle D'Souza, Nia Sharma and Jennifer Winget,” says Barkha. Mother of a six- year- old daughter, Barkha, 37, has been able to grab the jury’s eyes with her constant work outs and fitness regime.
If fitness in her genes being the daughter of a retired lt. Colonel and being Uttarakhandi, helped her naturally, Barkha avers, “People say that the Paharis are fit people. It is in their genes, but I think it is an excuse. Genes help only up to a certain age of a person after which it is one’s own efforts to maintain the vital statistics and remain in shape.”
When asked about her daily routine, Barkha says, “I do not diet on food. I eat everything edible. My husband Indraneil Sengupta is my fitness trainer. I remember during my period of pregnancy, I feared about the weight gain to which he assured me that he would get me back in shape and he has done it. He encouraged me at every step.” Her fitness regime includes running in the parks and doing gym exercises for an hour. “I love ice creams which have lot of fatty acids, but I burn the calories gained every day without fail,” she says. Unlike many other artists, Barkha starts her day at 5.30 am the routine does not change even if her shooting gets late into the night hours. Her father G S Bisht is also a fitness freak who still plays squash and tennis at the age of 72, shares Barkha.
