With an aim that Dehradun district be declared Open Defecation Free (ODF), Dehradun DM Ravinath Raman met the district officers on Wednesday. He directed the district officers to lay emphasis on creating awareness about the ODF and ‘Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao’ projects among the people in their jurisdictional limits.
Project manager Swajal SC Badoni said that the current status on ODF in blocks like Chakrata, Kalsi and Vikasnagar is not up to the mark. Special attention needs to be given over the same at the above places, he said. He further said that in the above blocks, apart from motivating the people to construct toilets, places for making community toilets should be identified.
DM Raman directed the district food and civil supply officer to mention ODF and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao on PDS ration cards. Motivational programme on the above issues should be conducted through PDS dealers, DM stressed.
The health officer was also directed to start public awareness campaign over the same at PSC and CSC levels. Besides, the same should be highlighted on ANM immunisation card.
He said that block pramukh, kshetra panchayat member and gram panchayat members, village panchayat officers and village development officers would play a significant role for making the district ODF. Those who are performing well would be awarded by Chief Minister or others, DM said.
The education officer was directed to raise awareness among the school students about ODF. Besides, the students’ parents should be given counseling. The officers of Jal Nigam, Jal Sansthan and power departments were directed to motivate the customers through mentioning slogans of ODF and Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao on water bills and electricity bills.
