While officials work towards improving the chances of success for Dehradun smart city proposal in the second round of competitive project execution of the Union Government, many in Dehradun are questioning the point in getting personalities like television personality Dolly Bindra and actor Shakti Kapoor to publicise and garner support for this project. The MDDA is eliciting mixed response including criticism and even ridicule for involving Kapoor and Bindra who had separately attended publicity events in support of the project recently in Dehradun.
Even as varied views are being expressed in the public domain including social media, Doon based students’ activist group Making a Difference By Being The Difference (MAD) has uploaded a short satirical act on You Tube. The act which is just a couple of minutes in duration is a stinging satire featuring purely fictional characters- Bhakti Kapoor and Dolly Mahindra. Though the fictional characters speak only a few words in the act, the group of local youth has succeeded in eliciting focus on the purpose and method of publicity measures being undertaken for Dehradun smart city project.
