Though Dehradun police claim to have taken various measures to prevent vehicle thefts, the cases of vehicle theft in the State capital seem to be occurring consistently.

Dehradun police arrested three persons from the Clement Town Police Station area and recovered a stolen bike from their possession on Monday. Earlier, last week the police had arrested three vehicle thieves and had recovered six stolen bikes from their possession. Observers opine that vehicle theft cases are being increasingly reported from busy market areas, outside temples and other crowded areas in the state capital.

Clement Town police officer said that three persons were arrested with a stolen two wheeler on Monday. The accused have been identified as Darbhanga (Bihar) natives Mohan, Kamal and Rambabu who are currently living in a rented accommodation in Khurbura area and were working as labourer in the city.

According to the police officer, in his complaint Sanjay Kumar, resident of Selaqui area had stated that his two-wheeler was stolen by some unidentified persons from near the Dat Kali temple on the outskirts of the State capital. Taking cognisance of this report, an FIR was lodged under sections 379 of IPC against unidentified persons in the police station. Acting in this case, a team was formed and it began searching for the accused. The police team somehow managed to arrest these thieves on Monday acting on a tip off. The accused were booked under sections 379 and 411 of IPC and were sent to Suddhowala jail after being produced in the court, said the police.
