Chief Minister Harish Rawat has expressed dismay on his letter to PM Narendra Modi being linked to politics. He further said that the projects in Uttrakhand have national importance due to the prevailing situation in the border areas of the State.

In his letter to the PM Narendra Modi, he had requested him to grant national importance to the several projects being undertaken in the state owing to the environment related issues.

During UPA regime, as Union Minister and an MP has included the rail projects of Rishikesh-Karnaprayag, Tanakpur-Bageshwar, Rishikesh-Doiwala direct lane in issues of national importance. The grant for the same is not to be received from several departments but the centre fund. Similarly Tanakpur- Jauljeevi and other roads projects were given approval as national projects.

The CM has clarified that he had released this letter to the PM seeing his enthusiasm and emotional connect with the state. He has expressed confidence in support from the Centre keeping in mind the danger to national security due to migration of people from border areas. He also appealed them to keep State welfare issues separate from politics.

He wrote the letter due to financial limitations of the State. The inclusion of State’s projects as projects of national importance will ensure quick grant of financial aid and avoid unnecessary delay. “Thus not only will the State benefit but also the nation as its security shall be strengthened.”
