Domicile cut-off period is unjust, says Japendra

Published on:

The High Court had fixed November 9, 2000 as the cut off date for establishing the domicile status of those living in Uttarakhand but the government has changed the cut off period to 1985 which is unjust. Uttaranchal Saiyukt Sarv Samaj Sangathan chief Japendra Singh said this while addressing the media in Dehradun.

Alleging that the decision of the State government was part of a conspiracy, Singh said that there should be uniform law for people irrespective of their caste or religion. By facilitating a different regulation for SC/ST/OBCs in Uttarakhand, the State government has tried to divide the people of the State on caste lines, alleged the Uttaranchal Saiyukt Sarv Samaj Sangathan chief. Singh further said that the Congress was apprehensive about the result of the upcoming local body elections in the State. Fearing a loss in these elections, the Congress had resorted to taking such decisions. The USSSS will continue to struggle for the rights of those who should be accorded domicile status in the State.
