Doiwala-Khata road to be named after martyr Major Durga Malla

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat announced on Friday that the roadways buses which run between Dehradun and Rishikesh or vice versa  would come via AIIMS based in Rishikesh. Besides,  a 500- bed residential block would be built to enable the near ones of the patients to stay in the facility.

He also announced that Doiwala-Khata road would be named  after the martyr Major Durga Malla who was sent to the gallows because of his role in INA under Subhas Chandra Bose. This aside, the martyr’s statue would be installed in Doiwala Degree College with Doiwala being the place he hailed from.  He further reiterated the cabinet’s decision that  the Ministers have been tasked to hear out the grievances of the people while sitting  in their offices. “They would themselves talk to the aggrieved and would redress their grievances. The people are free to   visit the ministers’ offices sans any pass,” CM said. He made the bunch of announcements while taking part in a programme hosted to commemorate the 74th Sacrifice Day of Major Durga Malla in Doiwala on Friday. He asked  the degree college students to apply for the Rs 2 lakh health insurance scheme as earlier announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While paying glowing tribute to Durga Malla who made the supreme sacrifice for the cause of the motherland’s freedom, CM said that martyr does not belong to any particular community.  “His sacrifice is for the nation. This is why this commemoration of the day is not exclusive to the Gorkha community to which the martyr belonged. It is for one and all across the nation to pay tribute to the great soul. The day the nation stops remembering the martyrs would mark the terminal decline of the nation. We must thus continue to observe such days. Keshri Chand Fair is another important occasion to remember the great. We would soon constitute a committee to be tasked with observing such days in a befitting manner. However, this should not be confined within the Government folds,” he said.

He further paid his respect to the  valiant soldiers hailing from the state who fought for the maintenance of the nation’s unity and integrity on the borders and were consequently conferred with the  awards like Paramveer Chakra, Shourya Chakra and the like.

On this occasion, CM  felicitated the widow of a Kargil martyr lansnayak Jeet Bahadur Thapa  by giving her a memento.
