The proposed promotion and transfer of doctors of State health services would hamper services at Doon hospital, the biggest hospital of the State. The radiology department of the hospital would be worst affected with names of both the radiologists posted here figuring in the transfer list.
head of department (HOD) of Radiology Dr Yatindra Singh is transferred to Base hospital Srinagar while the other radiologist Dr Manoj Upreti is transferred to district hospital Haridwar.
Interestingly the State Government has not deployed any radiologist in the Doon hospital to replace the two transferred doctors.
Hundreds of patients avail the facilities like MRI, X-rays, Ultra sounds, digital radiography and CT in the Doon hospital each day. The hospital data suggests that the radiology department of the hospital does about 150 X rays, 100-120 Ultra Sounds, 45 CT scans and 15 to 20 MRI daily.
It is worth mentioning here that the State Government ended its contract with Mahajan Imaging Private limited in the month and June and handed over its operation to the to the department due to which the workload on the radiologists had increased.
Incidentally Dr Yatindra Singh is considered an expert in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and departmental sources reveal that there is no radiologist in the department which can handle MRI machine.
When contacted the Director General of Medical and Health Services Dr G K Joshi told The Pioneer that the department would arrange doctors at the places where they are needed.
He informed that the transfers of the doctors on promotion are being made as per the new transfer policy and the department would deploy some specialists on contract. Dr Joshi also hinted that the specialist doctors can be sent on deputations when they are needed the most.
