The nationalistic emotions still running high in the wake of terror attack from across the border, a couple of staff nurses and doctors have decided to celebrate this year’s Deepawali in a different manner.
They have pledged to donate money to the cause of the soldiers who had been martyred while protecting the borders, braving grim odds. They have also appealed to others, including their friends, not to waste money on crackers or on gift items this Deepawali and instead contribute to the Army Welfare Fund, Battle Casualties.
A Gynecologist attached to Ram Krishan Mission Hospital, Dr Aruna Kulkarni was the first to conceive the idea and soon it turned into a movement, inspiring the hospital staffers and those from Kankhal area to follow the lead.
“Every second person suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure these days, it is not wise to spend money on foodies by way of celebrating Diwali. Given the grim situation prevailing along the borders, it is thus far wiser to contribute to the Army Welfare Fund,” said Aruna.
She further said that many were asking her for information on where to donate and how. It took her a while to find the place where to donate so that it reaches the right person. “I asked a couple of persons amongst my friends, serving officers in Indian Army, and finally I got the information that Syndicate Bank accepts donations for Army Welfare Fund, Battle Casualties,” shared Aruna.
The contribution amount can be sent to A/c No. 90552010165915 Syndicate Bank with IAFC code as SYNB0009055.
lab technician in the hospital Venkatramani said that it was a waste to visit homes and exchange gifts by way of
celebrating a festival. “The festival, celebrated thus, boils down to gain and loss in terms of gifts received and given. It is therefore far better to contribute to the Army Welfare Fund. The Uri terror attack has aroused nationalistic emotions across the country. We are gratified to contribute our mite to the cause of those who laid down lives while fighting terror,” he said.
