Doctors' Day 2 strike adds to patients' woes

Published on:

The ordeal of patients in the Government health facilities continued on Tuesday as the doctors of State health services were on two hour work boycott on the second consecutive day. The doctors refrained from sitting in the Out Patients Departments (OPDs) and examine patients from 8 am to 10 am in all the hospitals and health centres causing problems to the patients.

large number of patients could be seen waiting for the doctors in morning. At the associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) one of the fallout of the limited work boycott was that long serpentine queues were seen outside the pathology lab before noon as the work started late.

“I waited for about two and half hour in the morning to get examined by the physicians and later was made to stand for two hours outside the pathology lab for sample. Doctors should adopt some other means of protest rather than causing problems to patients,’’ said Razia a resident of Bhagat Singh Colony.

The association of the Government doctors, the Provincial Medical Health Services (PMHS) have resolved to continue its work boycott till the Government release the Government Order (GO) for across the board implementation of the Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) scheme. The President of the PMHS, Dr S K Goswami said that the work boycott would continue till the GO is issued.

The DACP means

assured increase in the grade pay of the doctors after 4, 9, 13 and 20 years of the service irrespective of whether they get promotions or not.

Accepting the long standing demand of doctors, the State Government finally implemented the DACP last year but restricted it for the new doctors. It infuriated the serving doctors and they launched an agitation. The State Cabinet on June 4 accepted the demand of the PMHS but the GO is yet to be released. It is learnt that the government is expected to release the GO on Wednesday.
