Doctor adamant to remain in Doon, refuses promotion bid

Published on:

The refusal of one of the doctors of Doon hospital for promotion to the rank of Joint director reflects the mind set of the doctors of the State.

It is a matter of common knowledge that the State is suffering from acute shortage of doctors as 1482 posts are vacant in the health services of State due to which health facilities in the mountainous areas are virtually non existent. The recent promotions are made on the basis of the new transfer policy and most of the transfers were made to the mountainous areas.

The promotion from the position of Senior Medical officer (SMO) to Joint Director brings an appreciable increase in the salary of the doctors and refusal to accept promotions means how adamant the doctors are to remain in Dehradun. Interestingly four out of total 11 transferred doctors from Doon hospital, Dr Mahavir Singh (Physician), Dr NS Khatri (pediatrics), Dr NK Mishra (pathologist) and Dr RS Chauhan (ENT) have managed to prevent their transfers on the plea of being medically unfit.
