Senior IPS officers posted at the Uttarakhand Police headquarters are ‘overburdened’ with the work due to lack of officers in the State cadre. At present, each officer shoulders additional responsibility of a wing, at least, along with the main role.
There are seven IPS officers at the headquarters who look after task of at least one more wing of the police along with the main responsibility. The IPS officers including Deepam Seth, Ram Singh Meena, GS Martolia, Ram Singh Meena, Sanjai Gunjyal, Vimmi Sachdeva and VP Singh. Posted as Inspector General (CID) Deepam Seth holds responsibility of secretary police sports. Simultaneously, he also has additional responsibility of IG PAC. IG (law and Order) Ram Singh Meena also plays role of Commandant General of Home Guards.
IPS GS Martolia is in the capacity of DIG -CID. But he has been made in-charge of disaster relief work that is an additional responsibility to him. IPS Sanjay Gunjyal is presently posted as DIG PAC and Crime. He holds responsibility of the DIG crime along with the PAC.

Along with this responsibility, he also looks after task of the complaints sections. IPS Vimmi Sachdeva is superintendent of police of anti-human trafficking unit. Along with it, she is SP (law and Order) and heads the cell looks into the complaints related to women.
Shortage of officers has added to the work of the IPS officers. lack of officials affects the work in several wings. The state should have 69 IPS officers as per its cadre strength. At present, the State has 63 IPS officers against the total strength of 69. There are two reasons behind shortage of officers. One, few senior officers are on central deputation. They would return only after completing their tenure there. Two, few officers of the cadre are on deputation in the adjoining State. One officer is absent from the duty for more than a decade.
Director General of Police (DGP) Satyavrat said, “The officers have been given additional responsibility due to lack of IPS officers. Sixty nine is the IPS cadre strength in the State. At present, there are 63 IPS officers.” He said that the state would get two officers from the new IPS batch. This would help in removing the shortage of the officers.
