DMs told to ensure disaster victims get their compensation money

Published on:

The Government is committed to provide monetary relief to the disaster victims.

All the DMs in the affected areas have been directed to ensure that all disaster affected victims get their compensation money within the time frame.

So far, one lakh people have been given relief cheques.

Providing this information, the Secretary, Disaster Management, Bhaskaranand said on Friday that the disaster management department was keeping a close vigil to ensure that the disaster victims were given monetary relief cheques on time.

It may be noted here that there were newspaper reports of cheques distributed having bounced, following which an inquiry was made in this regard.

Neither the district magistrates nor the government have received any such complaint about cheques not having been received or having bounced.

The Secretary, Disaster Management, said that cheques had been issued to all beneficiaries, so far.

Only two complaints about cheques were received where, in one case, there was an error in the name and, in the other, error in the account number.

Even in these cases, the cheques were deposited with the DM who returned them after rectifying the mistakes.

The Government has asserted that the news published in the newspapers and shown on news channels were not accurate.
