The Doon Medical College (DMC) has clarified that no contractual worker would be removed from the associated hospital of college (formerly called Doon hospital) after April 1. There are 115 contractual workers in the hospital and their contract is expiring on March 31. These employees were apprehensive on Thursday as a word spread that the DMC has decided not to renew the contract of the contractual workers employed in the hospital.
When contacted, the Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital, Dr K K Tamta told The Pioneer that there is no plan whatsoever to remove these workers. “ I don’t know who has spread the rumour and what was the purpose, but let me clarify that there is no such plan,’’ he said. He further questioned, “Why would the DMC remove trained manpowerIJ”
In a letter directed to the Principal of DMC, the Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) of Doon hospital, Dr R S Aswal had said that the hospital had employed contractual workers from the agencies like Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam limited (UPNl) and Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD) and the contract of these 115 workers is ending on March 31.
In his letter Dr Aswal said that since the services of these workers would be required in running the hospital in future too, so the DMC should sympathetically consider renewing their contract as their work was satisfactory.
It is worth mentioning here that the erstwhile Doon hospital which was under medical health department is now part of DMC which falls in medical education department.
