DMC starts pathology lab in women's wing

The intervention of State Chief Minister Harish Rawat appeared to have its effect on the associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) on Friday as situation was less chaotic on the day.

The hospital administration started a separate pathology laboratory in the female wing of the associated hospital on Friday. In the Central laboratory of the hospital which has become a hotspot of the patients protest from last many days, the hospital administration installed separate system of registration of male and female patients.

The Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital, Dr K K Tamta said that the old system of separate pathology labs at male and female hospitals would now be followed. He informed that from Monday the registration and billing counters in the female wing of the hospital would also start.

The problems in the biggest hospital of the state started when the erstwhile Doon hospital and the district female hospitals were merged into the medical college. Citing the regulations of Medical Council of India (MCI), the Principal ordered that only one central lab would function in the hospital instead of two. This decision proved disastrous and protests and skirmishes became the order of the day due to huge load of the patients.

The Chief Minister Rawat had convened a meeting of top officials of health department on Thursday and ordered that the facilities in the biggest hospital of the state should be improved. He also ordered a steep hike in the financial powers of medical superintendents and the Principal. On Thursday the Secretary medical education, D Senthil Pandian visited the hospital and suggested many improvements.
