The Homoeopathy and Ayurveda wings functioning in the associated hospital of Doon Medical College (DMC) could be shifted before the ensuing inspection of the team of Medical Council of India (MCI).
The hospital administration has recommended the State Government for shifting the doctors and staff members of these forms of medicine to some other place from the hospital. Confirming the development, the Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital, Dr KK Tamta said that the team of the MCI could object to functioning of these departments as an associated hospital of a medical college do not have Ayurveda and Homeopathy doctors in it.
The health department is planning to shift the doctors and other staff members of the Ayurveda and homeopathy to the Coronation hospital. It is worth mentioning here that all the district hospitals of the State have the separate wings for these forms of medicine.
The associated hospital of the DMC was a district hospital before it was transferred to the medical college to fulfill the obligation of having an associated hospital with a minimum capacity of 300 beds. The hospital was transferred to the medical college but these wings continued to work in it.
The hospital administration and DMC management do not want to take any chance for the next inspection of MCI, which is scheduled in third week of March therefore they are planning to shunt out these wings from the hospital. The fate of the medical college is dependent on the MCI visit as the apex body would grant its letter of Permission (lOP) based on the report of the visiting team.
The Ayruveda and Homoeopathy wings of the hospital are very popular with the patients. The data suggests that more than 200 patients visit their OPDs daily on an average. The facility of Panchkarma therapy is also available in the Ayurveda wing of the hospital.
One of a doctor of Ayurveda system said that the Government should shift these wings in a place which in the heart of the city so that the patients of these forms of the medicines are not affected.
