After much deliberation, the associated hospital of the Doon Medical College (DMC) has finally received a good consignment of medicines from the Health Directorate. A crisis of medicines, injection and other equipment had plagued the biggest hospital of the State ever since it was merged with the DMC. The IV fluids and other life-saving medicines were off the shelves of the hospital causing problems to the patients and red faces in the Government.
The Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital KK Tamta told The Pioneer that the hospital has now received a big consignment of the medicines and injections from the health directorate which would be enough for next one and half months.
He said that the drugs are from the 103 listed by the Government. Dr Tamta further informed that the hospital is in process of preparing its own tenders and once the budget is received these tenders would be floated. He said that all preparation for tenders of medicines, surgical equipment and radiology films have been done.
It is worth mentioning here that after the transfer of hospital from medical health department to medical education the State health directorate refused to supply medicine and other equipment to the hospital which triggered acute shortage in the hospital.
Following adverse shortage of medicines in the hospital and media reports about the problems faced by the patients in absence of medicines, the Principal Secretary (PS), Health, Om Prakash on Tuesday had directed that the health directorate would continue to provide medicines to the biggest hospital of the State.
After these orders the directorate relented and started providing medicines but in meager amounts. It is learnt that the directorate provided the latest consignment after rebuke from the State Chief Minister Harish Rawat.
The directorate however is providing these medicines on loan to the hospital and the authorities of DMC have resolved to return them once it starts receiving medicines from its own tenders.
