DM meets political parties on issuance of voter cards

Published on:

District Election Officer and District Magistrate Ravinath Raman held a meeting with leaders of various political parties and district officers to discuss issues related to the voter’s cards at his office on Monday.

Notably, the process of preparing voter cards for the new voters started at the booth levels on Saturday.

The meeting threw up the fact that in some constituencies, the number of voter cards issued so far was more than the number of the residents while in others, the number of such cards issued to the women voters were less than the number of women voters residing there.

Taking stock of these facts, the district election officer Raman directed the district officers concerned to correct things so that only the genuine voters can vote and all the women voters are provided with the voter cards. He directed SDM Swati Bhadouriya and all tehsildars to convene a meeting with the BlOs concerned and other employees deputed on the task to take prompt initiatives  on the matter while warning that the officials found laggard in addressing the matter would not  be  spared.

He also stressed on including the youth reaching 18 years in the electoral rolls. Besides, the names of those residing in ashrams should be included, he said.

He said that all the BlOs had been directed to reach their assigned polling booths to take up the process.

It would be a month-long process, ending on October 31. The Indian citizens reaching 18 on January 1, 2017 can make their photo identity cards at their polling booths during the period. Voters can rectify errors found in their voter identity cards during the period. Similarly, those who have lost their voter cards can make apply for new ones at their polling booths.

Raman made it clear that no money would be charged for including names in the voter’s list. Forms are given free of cost. He appealed all the voters to see their names and other family members in the voter’s list. If their names are not found in the voter’s list they need to collect forms from the polling booths and submit them with necessary documents within the fixed time frame.

The local residents should inform the BlOs if any voter leaves the constituency area so that his name is deleted, DM said. Citizens can approach the election office through toll free number 1950 or 135-2624216 to get more information about the same, he added.
