The Pauri District Magistrate Sushil Kumar instructed the officials concerned to ensure surprise inspections of the ultra sound centres established in the different parts of the district. He directed the officials to take necessary action against such centres found to be in operation without proper registration. The District Magistrate issued the instructions while chairing a meeting on PCPNDT Act held in the district headquarter Pauri on the weekend. Sushil Kumar also sought the information from the health department about the action taken against the ultra sound centres found running against the rules and regulations in the district.
Addressing officials in the meeting, the District Magistrate directed the health department to conduct the survey of the sex ratio of the age group of 0 to 6 years in the remote areas of the district. The departmental officials were also directed to work for raising public awareness in such areas on deterioration of the sex ratio.
The department should ascertain the sex ratio in the 0 to 6 years age group through the primary health centre, added the District Magistrate. He warned that legal action would be taken against the guardians and the ultra sound centre in case it is established that sex-determination tests were carried out in the pre-natal period. The deputy chief medical officer Dr NK Tyagi informed in the meeting that the sex ratio is 942 per 1,000 in the 15 blocks of the district in the age group of zero to six years. According the survey conducted, the sex ratio was found to be the minimum at 792 in Khirsu block and maximum at 1101 in Thalisain block said the deputy chief medical officer. He further informed that the sex ration in Beerokhal, Ekeshwar and Thalisain is more than one thousand.
Considering this information, the district magistrate expressed concern at the low sex ratio in the other 12 blocks on the district and directed the officials concerned to take necessary measures for improving the situation as required.
Dr Tyagi went on to inform the District Magistrate about the deteriorated condition of the health service van which is of vital importance especially for providing medical treatment to people living in the remote mountainous rural areas of the district.
Taking cognisance of this issue, the district magistrate directed the officials concerned to ensure that the medical service van is in proper shape and provided with all necessary facilities to ensure treatment of people in the remote areas of the
district.
