Following on the Government objective to double the farmers’ income by 2022 Dehradun District Magistrate SA Murugesan convened a meeting to review the work plan, which is being prepared jointly by Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fishery and silk department. During meeting each department made their presentation on Friday.
DM instructed that PM has instructed to fix your target to double the income of farmers by 2022 so you make a plan accordingly with proper coordination. He asked the agriculture department that farmers should be provided quality seed and fertilisers and technique too so that they can get better return. You prepare plan as per the geographical condition of the area.
Thereafter you educate the farmers about how they can get better output. Horticulture department to you distribute high quality seed and fruit plants in the areas where fruits and vegetables are being produced on large scale so you prepare plan accordingly.
He asked them to make coordination between the departments so that we can create collection centre for the storage of better produce then they would get better price of their produce. For this you identify the market, where they can get high return. Animal husbandary department was asked to provide high quality breed of animal to the animal husbandry farmers and make plan about how we can make fodder development scheme. Fishery department was asked to create awareness among the farmers about the fishery and how they can increase their income by adopting fishery farming. For this you select two Gram Panchayat in each block for cluster farming.
Chief Agriculture officer (CAO) apprised that we have created a list of cluster farming and selected two gram panchayat from each block. For this farmers would be motivated to opt high quality seed, adopt water conservation scheme, make effort for intensive development scheme and crop insurance scheme.
Chief horticulture officer said that farmers are being motivated to do plantation of quality fruit true or seed of vegetables. In fruits pomegranate, papaya, guava are being promoted and in vegetables pea, tomato, cabbage, potato, lemon and in spices ginger and chilly are being promoted.
Even to promote honey production farmers are being provided poly house. Animal husbandry officer said that we are promoting artificial insemination so that female calf would born.
