In an appropriate gesture to mark the  Children's Day on Saturday, district  magistrate Nainital Deepak Rawat and city magistrate Harbir Singh have adopted two children - Ansh and Palak-residing in Rajendranagar Rajpura slums.

Rawat said that he was just contributing  his bit to help the children stricken with malnutrition spawned   by deficiency in nutrients in their diet.  He also distributed Bournvita, Cerelec and other protein supplements among the children  on the occasion. "128 children have been identified as malnourished in the district. Now, following the detection, the district administration will take full care of them  to ensure they get nutritious diet," he said.

He said he had also instructed all SDMs to adopt at least one child each and enquire  into his health once a   month. He appealed to the people to come forward for the noble cause.

He also instructed the officials concerned to examine health condition of the children from time to time and provide them with vaccination if needed aside from examining the rations distributed thorough Aaganwadi centres. "We must make sure that no child suffers from malnutrition. We all must  be  vigilant in our jurisdictional areas to fight the menace  of malnutrition that is afflicting the children. Besides, we  must lead the locals by  examples to keep their surroundings clean," DM said.
