Dehradun district magistrate and head of the district level Press committee, C Ravishankar chaired a meeting of the committee at his camp office here on Wednesday. He sought information about the problems being faced by journalists in the district from the members of the committee.
Stating that stress will be laid on better communication between the administration and the Press, he said that issues of the journalists should be raised in the committee and that all possible attempts will be made to resolve these.
Stating that the Press was receiving the cooperation of the administration, senior journalist Sanjay Kandwal called for strict action against those misusing the profession of journalism. Another senior journalist Raj Kamal Goyal said that some newspapers had issued Press identity cards even for such people in their institutions who did not have anything to do with journalism. Requesting action in such cases, he suggested that media organisations issuing identity cards to journalists should also inform the information department, district magistrate’s office and the office of senior superintendent of police so as to minimise scope for misuse of the title of journalist. Committee member Ramanuj requested the district magistrate that the meeting for approving Press accreditation should be held soon. Committee member Naresh Rohila requested that information about various important occasions should also be sent to representatives of small newspapers so that the same may be shared with their readers.
Ravishankar said that he would consider the issues raised in the meeting. The issues not under his purview would be forwarded to the head of the department concerned, he said. The superintendent of police (City) Shweta Choubey and district information officer PS Bhandari were also present in meeting.
