With the onset of monsoon, the district administration has directed the departments concerned to take effective measures to control dengue. Taking a review meeting in the collectorate at Roshanabad on Thursday, the District Magistrate Deepak Rawat asked the district officials to take dengue control measures seriously. He inspected the collectorate site and directed the officials to ensure that water is not allowed to remain in utensils, flower pots and water coolers.
Spotting an open water tank in the collectorate premises, the DM ordered withholding the salary of the disaster management officer, Meera Kaintura and a collectorate officer S S Mishra till further order.
When asked about the matter, Meera Kaintura said, “Some construction work is now going on. They stored water for their use which was kept in the open. It was on the back side of our office. They have been warned not to do so.”
In view of the mosquito larvae developing in water when it rains particularly in July, DM directed the officials of the health department to launch an awareness programme for the prevention and treatment of the vector- borne dengue. He directed them to arrange a special vehicle to be used for spreading the message of prevention of dengue.
He directed the Municipal Corporation officials to visit door to door and inspect the open spaces of houses, roof tops, water coolers and flower pots and complete the task by July 15. He also asked them to use corporation vehicles to make announcements during the garbage lifting process about the dengue risks. He, further, directed the Governmental and non-governmental organisations, transport department officials, managers of bus stand to maintain cleanliness during the monsoon season.
Besides, he asked the industrial units, medical facilities, hotels and religious organisations to produce certificate, stating that there is no water left in the open spaces and the empty containers in their premises. He cautioned that anyone found with laidback attitude will be made to face consequences. BHEl and SIIDCUl industrial units have also been asked to do self- inspection and send confirmation to the district administration to the effect of no water accumulation anywhere.
The DM sternly asked the disaster management officer to inspect the collectorate premises daily to see if there is water left anywhere. Further, he directed the canteen workers to maintain cleanliness and ensure that there are no food leftovers which invite flies and mosquitoes, leading to health risks.
