DM: Removal of encroachment, sanitation to be main focus

After visiting various parts of the provisional state capital recently, the newly appointed Dehradun district magistrate C Ravishankar issued instructions to officials regarding the removal of the encroachments and maintaining the desired level of sanitation in the city so that people face no water logging problem during heavy rainfall.

Informing about this he said, “Necessary instructions have been issued to the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) officials for taking proper care of sanitation in the city.

As per the information given to us the drive for the cleanliness of the city by the MCD is currently underway.”

When asked about the shortage of the workers in MCD which cause a hindrance in maintaining proper cleanliness of the city he said, “MCD submitted a proposal and State Government has granted permission for appointing 400 more workers. The appointments will take some time but this will be done soon.”

Regarding the issue of encroachment he said, “Encroachment in the city is a critical issue especially when it comes to those who have encroached on critical spots which can cause accidents especially during the monsoon season. Directions have been issued and necessary measures  regarding this will be taken as per the rules.”

The team deputed to undertake anti-encroachment drive faces many difficulties while undertaking the task as seen recently when an MCD official on an anti-encroachment drive was beaten by a shopkeeper.

When asked about it the DM said, “The issue is in our knowledge hence necessary steps will be taken in such issues accordingly in future.”
