District traffic police to focus on other school junctions after Kanwad season

The new traffic system at Subhash Road has reduced the traffic tension there for the commuters during the closing time of Saint Joseph’s Academy (SJA), but there are several other crucial junctions in the city which still face major traffic woes during day time due to schools.

The important thing is that it is not only the absence of traffic personnel at the area that cause congestion, but the irregular form of parking which parents do is the primary cause of traffic issues at these places.

According to Superintendent of Police (traffic) Prakash Chandra Arya said, “This new system at Subhash road was established as a pilot project, as the road was important with Police headquarters and state secretariat nearby.

As large number of our force is deployed for the ongoing Kanwad Yatra at Haridwar and Rishikesh, we have not been able to fully focus here. Soon after the force gets back on July 30, we will start focusing on the schools here.”

When asked about the main areas and junctions they will be focusing on he said, “We will start from East Canal Road.

Then we will be focusing at Brightland School, Marshall School and Hill Grange School, which have become spots for traffic congestion during school hours, after we will focus on Convent of Jesus and Mary, The Heritage School at MKP Chowk, Saint Thomas and Sherwood School.” According to a shopkeeper near Survey Chowk, “The traffic during day time usually gets thick as the students from DAV and DBS PG Colleges come from one side and the heavy traffic of parents from Astley Hall and CJM come towards Survey Chowk as well.

Traffic police try to keep the traffic operational, but sometimes even they fail to keep it smooth.” Another shopkeeper near Tibbetan Market said, “The parents come and park their vehicles anywhere. Most of the times there is no police personnel and even when there are police personnel, the situation remains the same. ”
