The Bharatiya Janata Party State president, Tirath Singh Rawat, has announced the names of BJP candidates in the elections to the post of District Panchayat chairpersons in five districts of the State. According to Rawat, Meena Devi will be the party candidate from Chamoli district, Himani Negi from Pauri district, Sona Sajwan from Tehri district, Sushma Fartyal from Champawat district and Neema Arya from Nainital district.
It is worth mentioning here that though the Congress had not declared its official candidates in the three-tier Panchayat elections, the candidates supported by the Congress had fared better than the BJP candidates.
