The Disciplinary Committee of the Congress party has suspended Haridwar Mandi Samiti head Sanjay Chopra and Sundar Singh Manwal for six months and three months respectively. Their party membership has been suspended after they were found guilty of indiscipline during a Congress programme held about two months ago in Haridwar.
According to PCC chief spokesman Mathuradatt Joshi, the PCC disciplinary committee had held a meeting regarding the Haridwar incident. Both the sides involved in the incident were given the opportunity to present their position. After hearing both the sides, the party’s disciplinary committee had directed the two to submit their positions in writing.
The committee also heard the accounts of those who had witnessed the heated argument between Chopra and Manwal who are also reported to have an old dispute. At a meeting chaired by the disciplinary committee head Ravindra Jain, all the committee members unanimously opined that indiscipline should not be tolerated under any circumstances in the party organization. It was decided in the meeting that Chopra would be suspended from the party for six months while Manwal would be suspended for three months.
Informing the duo about the disciplinary committee’s decision, Jain has issued the order for their suspension. The disciplinary committee has expressed hope that the case may be reconsidered on the recommendation of the PCC chief Kishore Upadhyay in case of improvement in the behavior of the suspended party members.
