In what is an indication of hard times ahead, the State Meteorological Centre has said that the monsoon is 47 percent deficit in Uttarakhand so far.
Giving information about the deficit of the monsoon, Scientist B in the State Met Centre M M Saklani said, “The monsoon was a week late this year also it is 47 percent deficit in the state. The rainfall received so far is 79.5 millimetres which should be nearly 148.7 millimetres at this point of time. It should also be cleared that only some parts in the state have received the monsoon rainfall. There is a possibility that majority of places in the state would receive proper monsoon rains from July 1 till July 6.”
As per the information available at the State Met Centre, in the last six years, the monsoon was only deficit in the year 2014 which was nearly 63 percent.
When asked about the problem this may cause to the farmers he said, “The Monsoon is little late in our state but no major problem will be caused. However it can result in delay the sowing process for the farmers.”
